KIDS- Recycled Crayons

DIY. Turn broken pieces of crayons into multi-colored crayons!

I found an OLD container of broken crayons. I thought it was perfect to experiment in melting them down
I read that using a silicone pan is best, probably so you can easily get them out.  You just put them in the over for about 15 minutes at 250 degrees. If they aren't all melted, you can check them every  minutes until melted.

These turned out really cool... BUT there was a weird film that rose to the top (must have been filler wax or something). The whole top layer of the crayon doesn't color (which is the widest part so it's the part that touches the paper first)! And though my one year old likes using them because they are easy to hold, usually nothing shows up on the page. I guess that's okay since he has fun thinking he's coloring like his sister. At least they look neat.
