Cleaning-Humidifier

How To Clean and Disinfect Your Humidifier. Stay healthy and happy this winter!

I use a humidifier for my kids because it is so dry this winter that when the kids lay down in bed and move around, they spark with electricity! I never thought much about cleaning and disinfecting them. I just bought 2 used steamers from a Facebook Swap Site (I love them and find pretty much everything I need on FB!). I decided now would be a good time to clean all of them. The sediment it leaves at the bottom is so gross, and it's almost scary to know that it's in our water!

I cleaned them as instructed in the above link. I don't think I will be buying distilled water to put in them though! It would probably cost more to do that than to just buy a new one when it breaks from the gross buildup (hopefully cleaning them will prolong that).

They look nice from the outside, but WOW this one was really gross and had a lot of sediment from our water (might be mold too but it was so gritty it seemed like minerals or something). I scrubbed it and most of it came off.

I'm glad I saw this pin because for some reason I never thought to clean and disinfect my humidifier (obviously).

  1. Cleaning out humidifiers is super important! Letting them build up with mold etc by not replacing the filters can lead to legionaries disease in extreme cases. Scary stuff!

  2. We live in a soft water area, but my relatives have hard water. Sediment and mould builds up there very fast. Very good idea to clean out all appliances.
