FOOD-Broiled Grapefruit

Broiled Grapefruit with Honey - amazingly good for how simple - do try it, you'll be glad you did!!

I am not a huge fan of grapefruit, but every once in a while I like them. I saw this pin and I thought it looked like a great idea. Broiling grapefruit!? I tried it and it was DELICIOUS! It was like a dessert!

I just broiled it for about 6 minutes after cutting it away from the membrane (leaving it in the peel). I put honey on it before I put it in. It wasn't bubbling hot and actually was just warm when I ate it, but it was really good.

I told my mom about it, and she mentioned that the heat probably kills a lot of the vitamin C.  That made me a little disappointed (also heat kills some of the good properties of the honey too). But it tasted good as a treat either way!

I will probably do this again, just because it tastes really good, but I won't do it everytime I eat grapefruit!

If anyone knows more about the science of heating certain foods up, please share in the comments!

  1. Hey there Kristin, I must admit when I looked at the title of the post wasn´t sure if I understood it well. Never tried it but I sure will, because it looks good. Does it have like a caramelized flavour due to the honey eating up. Is it crispy? Ooh whatever I ll try it myself :-)

    1. The flavors meld together well. I don't think I left it in long enough to actually caramelize, but I plan to next time. It wasn't crispy at all, just warm and sweet. Thanks for stopping!

  2. Most of the food that I eat is raw so I will probably continue eating grapefruit the way I have always eaten it :)

    1. Yeah, that is probably the best way to keep the most nutrients in everything!
